Zero Trust Adaptive Security Framework for Continuous Enterprise Threat Mitigation in Hybrid Cloud Environments
Abstract
Hybrid cloud environments have become the backbone of modern enterprise IT infrastructure, enabling scalability, flexibility, and cost efficiency. However, this distributed architecture significantly expands the attack surface, making traditional perimeter-based security models insufficient. This paper explores a Zero Trust Adaptive Security Framework designed for continuous enterprise threat mitigation in hybrid cloud environments. The Zero Trust model operates on the principle of “never trust, always verify,” enforcing strict identity verification, contextual access control, and continuous monitoring of all users, devices, and workloads regardless of their network location. The adaptive security layer enhances Zero Trust by incorporating real-time risk assessment, machine learning-based anomaly detection, and dynamic policy enforcement. This enables enterprises to respond proactively to evolving cyber threats such as insider attacks, credential compromise, lateral movement, and advanced persistent threats (APTs). The framework integrates identity governance, micro-segmentation, endpoint security, and cloud-native security controls into a unified architecture. This study analyzes existing literature, proposes a structured methodology for implementation, and evaluates the benefits and limitations of deploying Zero Trust in hybrid cloud ecosystems. The findings suggest that adaptive Zero Trust significantly improves threat visibility, reduces breach impact, and strengthens compliance adherence, while also introducing challenges related to complexity, latency, and operational overhead.
